For the third time this school year, the Robertson Program travelled to Mine Centre Public School near Fort Frances to spend time with the kindergarten students at “camp,” the school’s outdoor classroom.

I was recently privileged to attend Anongoohns Kendaasiwin – Revitalizing the Art and Science of Star Knowledge, an extraordinary two-day gathering of Elders, Knowledge Keepers, educators and scientists, aimed at developing curriculum through a mutual sharing of Indigenous and Western understandings of the cosmos and our place in it.

Last week, the Robertson Program traveled to our friends at Mine Centre Public School to have another visit at their outdoor kindergarten classroom – or as they call it, “camp.” 

Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study Grade 5 teacher Tanya Demjanenko believes that students need to understand the capabilities of technology and how they can be active participants in the creation of new technology. 

The Robertson Program has had the opportunity to work with the impressive numeracy team from the York Region District School Board to create a four-part PD series to deepen knowledge and understanding of geometry and spatial reasoning in the Early Years. 

Yesterday, teachers from the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study Lab School (��������/UofT) held their annual Lesson Study, a professional development model that involves collaborative planning, teaching and reflection on classroom lessons and student learning.

Exploring issues of social justice through mathematics and science inquiry.

This morning, the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study Lab School (JICS) hosted a “Math Morning” that gave an opportunity for parents to see how math is taught and learned at JICS. It also gave me an opportunity to see the amazing math happening at the school!

We have just returned from a visit with one of our newest partner schools, Johnny Therriault School at Aroland First Nation in Treaty 9. The warm welcome from Principal Bill Beaucage set the stage for a great visit with the dedicated and enthusiastic group of educators at the school.

Carol Stephenson, the Kindergarten teacher at the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study Lab School, recently invited us into her classroom to find out how she begins the process of inquiry at the start of the school year.
