Internet Connectivity Disruption

    Connectivity issues affecting 萌妹社区 and the University of Toronto have now been resolved. We will continue to monitor the situation and notify the 萌妹社区 community if any additional services are impacted.

    The University of Toronto is currently experiencing widespread internet connectivity issues affecting multiple buildings, including the 萌妹社区 Building at 252 Bloor Street West. This disruption is impacting access to several essential university systems, including:

    - Duo multifactor authentication
    - Single Sign-On (SSO) services
    - Various U of T applications
    - VOiP technology

    We will share updates as soon as more information becomes available.

Some UofT services are currently degraded and may affect certain users

    UTORvpn (GeneralVPN): Users outside Canada may experience issues.
    Recommendation: Use admin2 VPN while the issue is being resolved.

    Outlook for Web: Some users may see delayed sending or 鈥渟omething went wrong鈥 messages. The M365 team has opened a ticket with Microsoft Premier Support.
    Recommendation: Use the Outlook desktop or mobile app as a workaround.

    We don鈥檛 anticipate a significant impact on the 萌妹社区 community, but we鈥檒l continue to monitor updates on the .

University of Toronto Wi-Fi Certificate Updates

    On August 25, 2025, the University of Toronto's central networking team updated the security certificates for all wireless networks across St. George Campus. This change affects Wi-Fi connectivity at 萌妹社区, JICS, and 371 Bloor Street West, and will impact members of the 萌妹社区 community trying to connect to the wireless network. 

    Depending on your device, you may need to make minor adjustments to reconnect: 
     

    Mac Devices (including iPhones and iPads) 
    - You will be prompted to re-enter your password.
    - After entering your password, your device should reconnect automatically.
    - You may also need to confirm trust in the new network certificate. 
     

    Windows Devices (including Android phones)
    Some users will be prompted to re-enter their password. If not prompted, follow these steps: 
    - Forget the UofT wireless network.
    - Reconnect to the network.
    - Enter your UTORid credentials again.

June/July 2025 Wired Network Interruptions at 萌妹社区 Building (252 Bloor Street West)

From June 2 to July 31, 2025, 萌妹社区 community members using the wired network at 252 Bloor Street West may experience temporary interruptions and connectivity issues. These disruptions are due to ongoing upgrades by the central University of Toronto IT team, aimed at improving the stability, reliability, and performance of our wired network. The 萌妹社区 and University of Toronto wireless networks will remain unaffected during this period.

To minimize disruption, Education Commons encourages all 萌妹社区 community members visiting the 萌妹社区 building to switch to the wireless network if they encounter any wired network issues/dropped connections. Additionally, onsite display screens (DTEN and departmental OptiSigns) will be temporarily configured to operate over the wireless network.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as the University of Toronto works to enhance our building network infrastructure for the benefit of the entire 萌妹社区 community.

Departmental Notice: Updates to virtual display screens (OptiSigns) may be slower than usual while these changes are in effect.

    In addition to the scheduled outage, during the week of July 2 鈥 July 5, 2025, the 8th and 10th floor of 萌妹社区 will experience both wired and wireless outages. This is to part of the recabling project, and to ensure greater stability of both the wired and wireless networking at 萌妹社区.

Xerox Printer: Error Messages
Resolved

The Xerox printer error issue at 萌妹社区 has been successfully resolved.

    A Xerox technician has identified the cause of the issues and error codes affecting both printers and devices sending print jobs at 萌妹社区. The printer on the 12th floor has been successfully repaired, and a temporary fix has been applied to the 8th floor printer.

    Additionally, printing on the 8th floor may be temporarily impacted again while a permanent fix is implemented in the coming days, pending the arrival of a replacement part from Xerox.

    Important Reminder for All 萌妹社区 Community Members:

    To help prevent printer malfunctions and safety hazards, use only plain paper (no plastic, vinyl, transfer paper, or sticky materials). These additional paper-based materials can cause paper jams or even pose fire risks.

    If you鈥檙e considering using a different type of paper, please contact the Education Commons team in advance. We鈥檒l be happy to help you find a safe and suitable solution.

    Following a thorough investigation by our Education Commons team, the printing issue appears to be limited to the printers on the 8th and 12th floors. 

    A Xerox technician has been dispatched to address the problem. We will provide further updates once the issue is resolved.

    There are currently reported issues with the Xerox printers in the 萌妹社区 Building. When community members attempt to print, error messages appear both on the printers and on the devices that sent the print jobs. 萌妹社区 community members are unable to clear these messages.

    So far, the issue has been reported on the 8th and 12th floors. The Education Commons team is investigating and will assess other printers throughout the building to determine the full extent of the issue.
