Virginia Morse Stead, Alumna

Proud ÃÈÃÃÉçÇø alum Dr. Virginia Morse Stead, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at home on May 3, 2025, at the age of 72. She was born in Beloit, Wisconsin, and lived in Chicago and Montreal as a child, eventually settling in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and becoming a Canadian citizen in 1977. Virginia was a warm and caring woman, known for her dedication to social justice and equity for all. Virginia was and earned her Master's degree in Educational Administration from Lakehead University and her Doctorate of Education from ÃÈÃÃÉçÇø, University of Toronto. She impacted the lives of many children as a French immersion teacher, ranging from kindergarten to high school. Most recently, she was the founding series editor for the under Peter Lang publishing. As a mother and grandmother, Virginia took joy in sharing her love of music, reading, imagination, and travel. Virginia loved to travel with her husband, Bob, including many memorable trips to Switzerland and other parts of Europe. She had a love of music, which ranged from playing piano and teaching the bells at Sunday School, to singing in various choirs. She was also a passionate advocate for the arts and helped lead the fundraising and planning efforts to have the Community Auditorium built in Thunder Bay. Virginia is survived by her husband, Robert Stead; her children, Andrew Stead and Julia Stead; and her grandchildren, Pippa and Maggie Stead, and Sammy and Ben Regev.
