Congratulations to Dr. Amal Madibbo: Recipient of the 2025 Outstanding Contribution to Sociology Award
We are delighted to share that Dr. Amal Madibbo, Professor in the Department of Social Justice Education, has been awarded the 2025 Outstanding Contribution Award by the Canadian Sociological Association.

This prestigious honour recognizes Dr. Madibbo’s transformative impact on Canadian sociology. Her influential scholarship on race, migration, transnationalism, and the sociology of the Black Francophonie has reshaped national and international conversations around equity, multiculturalism, and belonging.
Dr. Madibbo’s work has not only advanced academic knowledge but also informed public policy and inspired community activism. Her acclaimed book Blackness and la Francophonie—now being translated into French and Mandarin—continues to resonate across global contexts.
Beyond her scholarship, Dr. Madibbo is a deeply respected educator and mentor, having supervised over 16 doctoral students and supported countless emerging scholars. Her leadership in decolonial, multilingual, and justice-oriented research exemplifies the best of our field.
