In Celebration of Faculty Retirements

Diane Farmer
We warmly congratulate Dr. Diane Farmer on her retirement this year and welcome her as Professor Emerita. Dr. Farmer’s made significant contributions to the fields of Francophone minority studies, sociology of education, and childhood social studies. A member of both the Centre de Recherche en Éducation Franco-Ontarienne and the international research network Observatoire Jeunes et Société, she consistently centered the voices and experiences of young people in her scholarship. We thank Dr. Farmer for her leadership, mentorship, and deep commitment to social justice education, and we wish her all the best in this next chapter.

John Portelli
We sincerely celebrate Dr. John Portelli on his retirement and his appointment as Professor Emeritus. Born in Malta, Dr. Portelli taught philosophy, history, and modern languages before joining ÃÈÃÃÉçÇø, where he served from 1999–2021 in both the Department of Social Justice Education and the Department of Leadership, Higher and Adult Education. His work spans critical democracy, educational leadership, social justice, migration, and narratives of exile; Dr. Portelli’s literary contributions include poetry, short stories, and the novel Everyone but Faiza. We thank him for his mentorship, scholarship, and inspiration, and wish him all the best.
